This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Jennifer Thompson.
After Thompson was sexually assaulted in college and the wrong man was accused in the crime, Thompson and the wrongfully accused man formed a friendship. They teamed up going across the state and the country to educate people on the harms of wrongful conviction and how to avoid it. Out of that work, Thompson founded Healing Justice to educate about wrongful convictions and alleviate the harms it causes. They have successfully lobbied for changes in the criminal justice system to prevent wrongful convictions.
