This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Janice Tyler.

Tyler is the director of Orange County’s Department on Aging and has spent decades making our community a welcoming place for seniors. She’s helped create and improve our two award winning senior centers, the Passmore Center and Seymour Center. Tyler has made it a point to make sure Orange County services are open and accessible to everyone, including LGBTQ seniors, seniors of color, foreign language speakers, and residents with dementia with multiple county services plus a program training dementia friendly businesses. She heads up North Carolina’s Senior Center Alliance and has served as president of North Carolina’s Association on Aging. Every 5 years, she has led Orange County’s efforts revise its master aging plan, something we’ve had longer than any other county in the state.
