This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Fred Joiner, Carrboro’s Poet Laureate since 2019. Joiner’s term as poet laureate is up at the end of 2022, but his time in the position has been a fruitful one. Joiner, aside from standard duties of poetry reading and participation in Town Council meetings, curated the exhibit “Micro/Macro” at the Ackland Art Museum, had poetry featured in publications such as “Furious Flower: Seeding the Future of African American Poetry” and a great deal more.
For his work facilitating human connection, helping Carrboro to find expression and meaning in “big ‘P’ Poetry,” and his commitment to community, Fred Joiner is this week’s Hometown Hero!
