This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Fred Black.
Black is a military veteran who spent three decades in the US armed forces who now dedicates his time to advancing veterans’ interests and supporting their needs. He has worked to promote nonprofits, including years of service on the Strowd Roses Foundation Board and since 2005, he has been part of the effort to build a veterans memorial in Orange County. That memorial now exists outside the Southern Human Services Center on Homestead. It’s the site of Orange County’s annual ceremony on Veterans Day where Fred Black is one of this year’s speakers. Phase Four is currently ongoing to improve the landscaping.
