This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Damian Hoffman, Alex Nickodem, and Brian & Linda Sanders.
Brian and Linda have picked up 1200 bags of litter around our community since the pandemic so they’re no strangers to cleaning up around our community. When Tropical Depression Chantal hit, they spent two days at Eastgate Shopping Center pulling debris from drains and filling two large trash bags of trash. Not only does Brian help clean up around our community, he helps build homes with Habitat for Humanity and he serves at the SECU Family House.
Nickodem utilized his neighborhood list serve to help his neighbors in Briarcliff and Ridgefield. Not only did he help clean up from flooding, he also opened a tab at a restaurant so people could get a snack and lunch. Even before Chantal, Nickodem has sponsored events in his neighborhood where people collect food for PORCH.
In Hillsborough, the Eno Arts Mill building flooded for the first time ever. Katie Murray of the Orange County Arts Commission put out a call for help in the wake of the destruction and damaged art. Damian Hoffman answered her call and was there every day for the whole day to help with the clean.
