This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Claudia Lima.
Lima is a captain with the White Cross Volunteer Fire Department. During the flooding of Tropical Storm Chantal, Lima suited up immediately and went to the condos at Camelot Village to help people during the storm, though she’d only done water rescues once. Upon seeing it was too late to evacuate people by foot, her team teamed up with the Orange County Rescue Squad to begin rescuing people by boat. Lima spent the whole night rescuing people, unable to return home until the next morning where she found her own home had been flooded out as well.
