This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Christy Jones.

Jones is a member of the East Chapel Hill rotary club and Christ United Methodist Church in Southern Village. She recently brought both groups together for a meal packing event last month to help hundreds of neighbors in need. Every Martin Luther King Jr. day for the last 19 years, the Triangle’s rotary club has organized a meal packing event, giving out over two million meals along the way, but Chapel Hill’s rotary clubs had not been apart of it until Christy Jones helped make it happen this year. The meal packing event is the first time the East Chapel Hill rotary club and Christ United Methodist Church have worked together, though both have long since been involved in hunger relief efforts. Both the church and the rotary club are deeply involved in many acts of community service, including the church having just wrapped up 3o days of service in honor of their 30th anniversary.
