This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Caroline White.

White is a senior at UNC and the president of Solar Equity, a student run nonprofit that’s been around for four years. Solar Equity gives solar energy access to others who might not otherwise have it, installing solar panels for nonprofits and affordable housing units so they can reap the long-term savings without having to face the high upfront costs. They started with Habitat for Humanity and are now working with TABLE in Carrboro to solarize their food pantry. This year, Solar Equity has extended its reach beyond the Triangle to help install solar panels at Big Ivy Community Center north of Asheville to aid in their recovery from Hurricane Helene. It’s not just about saving money though, it’s also an impactful way to save the environment.
