This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Anita Brown-Graham! A professor at the UNC School of Government, Brown-Graham is the founder and director of the ncIMPACT Initiative, which works to expand capacity for UNC to work with public officials on complex policy issues, but it’s her work in kickstarting the Carolina Across 100 Initiative that’s earned her the honor of being a Hometown Hero this week!
According to its website, Carolina Across 100 “will exemplify the University’s mission to “enhance the quality of life for all people in the State” by creating meaningful partnerships with communities across North Carolina to respond effectively to opportunities and challenges facing communities.”
Brown-Graham’s vision for the initiative is to assure the people of North Carolina “their flagship university will be there to support them when they most need it” as the Carolina Across 100 Initiative works to assist COVID recovery across the state and forge new paths for people to find jobs paying living wages through training, education, and community development.
“This is not going to be easy work,” said Brown-Graham. “If it was easy, it would have already have been done. But it could be done, it should be done, and this is the moment in which it will be done.”
