Valentine’s Safety Tips from Triangle Electrical Services

Candles are a beautiful and special way to add magic to any holiday, or any regular day that needs a little light. A candlelit dinner for Valentine’s Day is a great way to celebrate at home. However, you want your special night with your Valentine to be memorable for the right reasons, not because you set a tablecloth on fire. Here are some candle safety tips to keep your Valentine’s Day safe:

  1. Don’t leave candles unattended. When you finish enjoying them, remember to blow them out. If you light a candle in the kitchen while you cook dinner, don’t try and move it to your table. Extinguish the kitchen candle and light a new one for the table.
  2. Place your candles on even surfaces away from furniture, drapes, paper, plants or flammable decorations. If you have longer hair, be extra careful when lighting or enjoying candles!
  3. If you light more than one candle, keep them three inches apart. This is to avoid them being too close and melting one another unevenly.
  4. If you’re enjoying Valentine’s Day at home with kids or pets, keep candles out of reach of little hands or fluffy tails.

All of us at Triangle Electrical Services hope you enjoy a safe and fun Valentine’s Day with loved ones!

Holiday Highlights Recipe — Game Day Buffalo Chicken Enchiladas

Sure, it’s Valentine’s Day weekend — but you know what else is happening this weekend? THE SUPER BOWL! So, since you’ve probably already got your romantic dinner plans all sorted out, and if you don’t now is the time to take care of all that particular planning, let’s talk about a fun and relatively simple dish to whip together for the big game that’s a guaranteed flavor winner!

Ali’s Crush-Worthy Gift Guide

It’s your favorite virtual shopping buddy! Not only do I love shopping for others, but I also really love Valentine’s Day! A whole day to celebrate your love of friends, family and if you so choose, a significant other? Sign me up! I love love.

I’ve put together a list of gifts, experiences, stay at home dates, and hidden gems around our community that I hope will make for a fabulous Valentine’s Day.

Dinner Somewhere Different

My husband and I go to the same restaurant in Greensboro every year for Valentine’s Day. Because it’s a little farther than our normal restaurant rotations, we reserve our visits there for special occasions like Valentine’s Day (and this one time our flights to Tampa got cancelled and we went for brunch to cheer ourselves up.) Extend your search radius a little bit and you’ll find a new favorite place that may be perfect for Valentine’s Day, or any occasion where you want to show someone they’re loved.

If you want to enjoy Valentine’s Day at home, look up the menu of a restaurant you enjoyed on your favorite vacation together. Don’t worry about making it the exact same way – use the dish for inspiration and just have fun preparing it together!

Practical Is Still Romantic

I’m all about practical gifts these days. I love when someone knows me well enough to treat me to something they know would be really beneficial to me rather than something that feels more “gift-y.” Does your partner do all the cooking? Treat them to a week of meals from a local meal prep service like Chef Lex Meals, or Goodness Cooks. Is there a show on a streaming platform you don’t currently use? Pay for three months of it and bring home your favorite bottle of whatever and enjoy together. A gift certificate for a pedicure, manicure or facial goes a really long way too!

A Spin on Flowers and Chocolate

Let me start by saying that if you show up with flowers and chocolate on Valentine’s Day – you’re doing just fine! Those are classic Valentine’s Day gifts for a reason. If you’re looking for something that has classic roots but a new flair, start with flowers and chocolate and expand. Instead of flowers, plan a visit to the botanical gardens, or a flower arranging class, or even a Wine and Design where you paint flowers together. Is your Valentine a chocolate fan? Surprise your partner with a fondue kit, set up your own chocolate pairing event at home (wine or fruit ciders make great matches) or visit Epilogue on Franklin Street and enjoy the most decadent chocolate while you find a new book!

Valentine’s Cocktail Recipe from Carrie Brogren

Whether you’re planning a special date night out or a cozy night in, it’s always fun to add a themed cocktail to the mix. In honor of romance, I’ve created the perfect Valentine’s Day libation for you to share with your loved one. This cocktail combines sweet raspberries, spicy ginger, and bright citrus (lemon).

“Love is in the Air”

Cocktail Recipe
  • Handful of fresh raspberries
  • 1 1/2 ounces gin
  • 1/2 ounce Chambord
  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • .75 ounce homemade ginger simple syrup
  • 1 egg white
  • aromatic bitters for garnish
Ginger Simple Syrup Recipe
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup fresh ginger (peeled and sliced)
Combine sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, add ginger, and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and let simmer for about 10-15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool. Strain the mixture into a glass bottle with a lid.

To Make the Cocktail
Add a handful of fresh raspberries and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add gin, Chambord, ginger simple syrup, and egg white. Shake vigorously without ice first and then add a handful of ice and shake a second time. Double strain into a coupe glass. Using an eye dropper, carefully place 5 or 6 drops on top of your foam. Gently pull a toothpick through the middle of each drop, which creates the heart shapes.
