Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 90

Last week the show’s guest was Trina Emler from University of Kansas’ Center for Learner Agency Research and Action. (Makes me so happy to see the word Action in the title, how about you?)

Trina used the word ‘empower’ frequently since both her research and her teaching is directed towards helping students be better decision makers, more creative in all aspects of their lives, more confident of their ability to achieve.

When I hear the word empower I often thing back to my teenage Counter Culture years when Abe Lincoln’s perfectly populist poetic ‘Of the people, by the people, for the people’ was restated for the times as ‘Power to the People.’

My go to move to help folks grasp their ownership of their work when I headed up my ventures was to be open-ended in my directions. As the leader is was my job to state the ‘why’ and the ‘what’ but left it to the folks working with me to figure out the ‘how’, empowering them to define the work to be done in a fashion that played to their strengths, their delights, and their growth.

Learn about Trina and her work:

Her book, what an engaging title, ‘An Education Crisis is a Terrible Thing to Waste’.

And Trina is the new editor of the Journal for Possibilities Study Network. Here’s the link to the current edition, the first she has overseen.

“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
