Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 67
In last week’s episode you were introduced and re-introduced to aspects of your brain’s biology that impacts creative and entrepreneurial thinking and behaviors.
A concept I singled out towards the end that, it seems to me, positions your brain absolutely as a creative organ is Neuroplasticity, your brain’s lifetime ability to change, to reconstruct itself, in response to new learning, new experiences, new demands on it.
As neuroscientists say, ‘what fires together wires together’ — and when you regularly, steadily, call on your brain to master a new musical instrument or new language or new dance style or new athletic move, your brain slowly but surely becomes the version of itself that serves you best.
You benefit from your brain’s neuroplasticity throughout your life. The flexibility diminishes as you age if you let it. You can improve and maintain it with some simple activities.
- Get out of your status quo mind whenever you can—take new routes, work to enjoy music you haven’t, use your opposite hand all day.
- Move, and move some more. Move all day. Why not get up now and go for a walk or at least go into the kitchen and get a drink of water.
- Learn something new that challenges who you are now. Learn something new that’s easy to learn. Learn something that will please someone you love. Learn something that will please you. Add other learning opportunities, and repeat and repeat.
“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
