Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 73

John Lowe, “Excitement”

John Lowe is such a great guest, don’t be surprised if this second visit isn’t his last.

When he came back a second time he hit two really important topics, failure and leadership.

He embraced that failure is a necessary dynamic in any new initiative. When it’s something you haven’t done before and especially when it’s true pioneer work that no one has done before, you want to fail. In fact you want to fail fast and fail often so you can learn fast and gain lots of important new information, likely information only you have. Then you integrate that new knowledge and move forward, informed by your failures, better capable of making decisions.

Failure = Learning

John also spoke about the distinction between managers and leaders. One of the shorthand differences I learned was that managers know how to do things right, leaders know what the right things are to do. John added perhaps the most important aspect of leadership and that’s the intentional, genuine care for the folks you are leading that results in them not only doing their best work, but also allows them to develop.

John is a painter and a poet. His work has appeared in numerous galleries and shows, and his first book of poetry is ‘Ramblings of a Common Man.’ He lives in Raleigh and loves hearing from like minded folks at wardlowe1@att.net.
