Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 96

In last week’s show we talked about how simple it is to grow your Creative and Entrepreneurial qualities.

Just Be Intentional. Since we are all born with remarkable Creative qualities all it takes for you to develop yours, grow and expand and deepen them, is to Be Intentional.

A great first place to practice your Intentional Creatively Entrepreneurial commitment is in the Language that we use.

We all know that our thoughts shape our words, let’s be mindful about how our words shape our subsequent thinking. We all speak approximately 16,000 words a day; let me suggest that’s a wonderful place to be Intentional.

First, listen very Generously to what your companion is saying, give your undivided attention and listen Appreciatively. That makes it more likely that your words will be Generous ones, Appreciative ones, and that’s a great Creative experience, for you and your friends to be digging and riffing off each others’ expressions.

One of my go to moves in my Creativity Workshops is to ask folks to raise their hands if they like being Taken Advantage. No one does, of course, because you’ve not only been beaten you likely feel abused somehow.

So when a new opportunity comes along, why do we say to ourselves, hmm, I wonder how I can Take Advantage of this opportunity. Saying that doesn’t necessarily mean you will take the best for you and then leave the rest for others, but we sure would call that Taking Advantage—does using that Language make it even incrementally more likely that’s the Mindset you’ll take.

Instead, what if we said, gosh, how can I Create Advantage from this Opportunity. Saying that doesn’t necessarily mean I will nurture it, care for it, invite others to work on it with me, but it points me in that direction.

“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
