This month, the spotlight is on Holman Family Dental Care and its specialized infant feeding clinic.
Babies who are suspected by their physician or lactation consultant of having a tongue tie are referred to Holman Dental. Babies that have tongue ties may have difficulty latching, a painful latch, have excessive gas or reflux, strong gag reflex or may take a long time to feed. Tongue ties also impact the ability to eat solid foods, chew, swallow and articulate certain sounds.
The clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach, completing a thorough feeding assessment alongside a lactation consultant and bodyworker to make a treatment plan that may include a tongue tie release. The tongue tie release is performed using a CO2 laser and is done same day.
