Put me in coach, I’m ready to play… or write… today.

Mayor Lydia Lavelle and the Town of Carrboro have announced an essay contest that is open to all elementary, middle and high school students in the town.

The topic: “What baseball or softball means to me.”

This contest is a partnership with the MLB Play Ball Initiative with the US Conference of Mayors. Mayor Lavelle is recognized as participating mayor, along with 272 other mayors across the country.

Per the release from the town, students should write an essay, or poem, about what baseball or softball means to them. The essay or poem should be no more than 300 words. All pieces should be original works by the author. Winners will be announced in three categories based on current grade.

All essays are due by June 15th and must be submitted to cdorando@townofcarrboro.org. Entrants should specify their current grade and include their Carrboro address.
