What’s trending today is something that seems boring but isn’t: sand. Sand is a surprisingly hot commodity, since it’s frequently used in construction and we use it faster than the natural world can produce it – so there’s now a thriving black market, and even highly-organized massive sand heists. (Even more concerning: we’re apparently on track to run out of construction-grade sand by 2050.)
