97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapelboro.com are your headquarters for local news and local voices in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. Every Wednesday morning, Chapel Hill Public Library director Susan Brown joins 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck for “Talking Books,” a weekly segment of book recommendations, of all genres and for all ages. (Susan also heads up Chapel Hill’s Community Arts and Culture department, so they’ll often talk about upcoming festivals and other cultural events as well.)
Click here to listen back to the full Talking Books archive – and tune in to “This Morning with Aaron Keck” Wednesday mornings at 8:30 on 97.9 The Hill to hear those conversations live.
This week, Susan and Aaron recommend books based on this week in history – but they’re really inspired by this week’s events at the library. Those events include a discussion of Martin Luther King’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” on Sunday, recognizing its 60th anniversary, and part four of a series on the book “From Here to Equality: Reparations for Black Americans in the Twenty-First Century.” Also, Susan recommends a book about a historic moment in international relations – based on her experience playing ping-pong in a cabin over spring break.
