97.9 The Hill WCHL and Chapelboro.com are your headquarters for local news and local voices in Chapel Hill-Carrboro. Every Wednesday morning, Chapel Hill Public Library director Susan Brown joins 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck for “Talking Books,” a weekly segment of book recommendations, of all genres and for all ages. (Susan also heads up Chapel Hill’s Community Arts and Culture department, so they’ll often talk about upcoming festivals and other cultural events as well.)

For Banned Books Week, the library is celebrating the “Right To Read” with a panel discussion at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 1. Speakers include local judge Joal Broun, a North Carolina librarian who’s come under fire from would-be book-banners – and Renee Sekel of Red Wine and Blue, an organization that fights book-banning efforts nationwide.

Renee Sekel joined Aaron and Susan for this week’s round of Talking Books – discussing the “Right to Read” initiative, the efforts of Red Wine and Blue, and their favorite frequently-challenged books.
