Kelly’s flying solo this month, joining Aaron for a wide-ranging discussion about numerous things happening in town. Tops on the list is Buc-ee’s, whose proposal for a giant gas station along I-40 got a chilly reception from Mebane’s planning board this week. (The city council will have the final say next month, though; they don’t always follow the planning board’s recommendations.) Mebane’s fire department is also heading into a transition period, as longtime chief Robert Louis steps down and John Wellons takes over as the city’s new fire chief; Wellons currently works for the fire department in Chapel Hill. Also: a longtime Mebane restaurant closes its doors and the city hosts the annual Reindeer Run 5K this weekend.
