Today, Aaron is joined by James Williams of the Orange County Community Remembrance Coalition. They’re hosting a “soil collection” ceremony on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at the courthouse in Hillsborough, to remember five men who were lynched in Orange County in 1869: Cyrus Guy, Wright Malone, and Daniel, Jefferson, and Washington Morrow. The following Saturday, May 6, the OCCRC is hosting another event, also at 1 p.m. at the courthouse: a discussion of Albion Tourgée, a major but long-forgotten local and national figure in the history of racial justice in the post-Civil War era.
