Every four years, Orange County conducts an extensive Community Health Assessment. Officials just released the latest one, identifying three key priorities for the county: improving access to care; improving behavioral health, including mental health as well as substance-use issues; and connecting residents to available resources for health and wellness.

In general, the 2023 assessment found Orange County outperforming the state average on nearly every metric, but there’s one glaring exception: the infant mortality rate among African-Americans is much higher in Orange County than it is across all of North Carolina.
