Every weekday morning, 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck chats with government officials, UNC scholars, business and nonprofit leaders, area musicians, and others in our community as they share their thoughts, their experience, and their expertise on the central issues of today. Click here to listen back to all of Aaron’s conversations – and tune in to “This Morning with Aaron Keck” at 7:30 a.m. on 97.9 The Hill to hear those conversations live.
Saturday, March 22, you’re invited to the Seymour Center at 2:00 p.m. for a presentation on UNC’s history, co-hosted by the Jackson Center and the Chapel Hill Historical Society. UNC grad student Fowota Mortoo will present a campus map she created that focuses on four Black families (Barbee, Blacknell, Jones, and Johnson) who were instrumental in designing and constructing campus buildings, walls and pathways.
Aaron welcomes Mortoo to the studio along with Kathryn Wall and Pat Jackson of the Jackson Center; they discuss Saturday’s event, Mortoo’s research, and how they connect to the Jackson Center’s larger efforts to elevate Chapel Hill’s long-hidden Black history – including an online living-history project called “From the Rock Wall” and a future memorial called the Builders Gateway.
