“A New History” brings together more than a dozen writers, drawing from recent scholarly research to present a more comprehensive history of the South, from the pre-Columbian era to the present day. The book focuses on the South as a culturally diverse and heterogeneous region, with a wide range of groups coexisting (and clashing) across a vast space, with a history of constant flux and radical transformations – not just the ones we’re familiar with, but frequent upheavals that have occurred across time.
