This week, Scott and Aaron remember the declaration of American independence – which occurred on July 4, but also July 2, July 9, and August 2. (The choice of July 4 as the holiday was somewhat arbitrary – which is how it often goes with holidays.) Also: the 26th Amendment is ratified, giving 18-year-olds the right to vote; and an 18th-century colonist becomes the first female newspaper editor in America. And Scott and Aaron discuss the importance of representation in government – and the extent to which some of our biggest moments of social and governmental progress have resulted directly from the upheavals of war.
