In today’s news: we’re still awaiting a final outcome in the Chapel Hill Town Council race – and the future of UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz. While Guskiewicz considers “weighing” whether to take over as president at Michigan State, the race has gotten even closer between Town Council candidates Elizabeth Sharp and Renuka Soll: Sharp now leads by just seven votes, with final numbers still pending from Durham County (which contains a small sliver of Chapel Hill).
Also: Chatham County sheriff’s deputies deal with a dangerous situation, a local business moves on in the face of a family tragedy – and UNC gets ready for a busy sports weekend, with NCAA tournament action for field hockey, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and cross country, plus men’s and women’s basketball games and a pivotal showdown for the Tar Heel football team.
