Following their performances in Carolina’s 19-17 win at Minnesota last Thursday, defensive lineman Jahvaree Ritzie and kicker Noah Burnette have been named the ACC’s Players of the Week at their respective positions.

Ritzie led the way in a stout defensive performance for the Tar Heels in their first game under new coordinator Geoff Collins. Ritzie finished the night with six total tackles and three sacks. Not only is the sack total a career high for the graduate student from Kernersville, but it was also the most by a Tar Heel in a game since September of 2019. In addition to his ACC honors, Ritzie was also named the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week.

Burnette also set a personal record with a 52-yard field goal in Minneapolis, which was the longest by a UNC kicker since 2016. It was one of four field goals made by Burnette, who scored all 12 of Carolina’s points in the second half. Burnette made kicks from 29, 42, 45 and 52 yards in addition to an extra point. He is now tied for sixth in UNC history with 38 career made field goals after missing just once in the 2023 season. Burnette was also named one of the Lou Groza Award’s Stars of the Week.

Ritzie, Burnette and the rest of the Tar Heels will be back in action on Saturday when they host Charlotte at Kenan Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
