UNC fifth-year center Armando Bacot has been named a preseason first team All-American by the Associated Press for the second consecutive season.

Bacot is joined on the team by reigning National Player of the Year Zach Edey from Purdue, Hunter Dickinson from Kansas, Kyle Filipowski from Duke and Tyler Kolek from Marquette. Carolina has faced off with each of those players in the last two seasons, holding a 5-4 record in those nine games.

Despite dealing with injuries throughout the season, Bacot had another solid year with the Tar Heels in the 2022-23 campaign. In 32 games, Bacot averaged 15.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per game. The season saw him break UNC’s records for career double-doubles and career rebounds. He was named first team All-ACC for the second straight season and earned third team All-America honors.

Bacot also ranks in the program’s all-time Top 10 in free throws made, free throw attempts and blocks. His career mark of 10.2 rebounds per game ranks seventh.

Bacot and the Tar Heels will officially take the floor for the first time on Friday in a home exhibition against St. Augustine’s at 7:30 p.m.
