Following a hot start to the season, UNC fifth-year senior center Armando Bacot was named the ACC Player of the Week.

In Carolina’s home wins against Radford and Lehigh, Bacot led the Tar Heels by averaging 3.5 points and 16.5 rebounds per game, including a 22-point, 20-rebound performance on Sunday against the Mountain Hawks. The big man now has three career 20-point, 20-rebound games and 71 career double-doubles. The latter is a UNC program record.

Bacot’s efficiency numbers are also outstanding: he is shooting 60 percent from the floor and 91.7 percent on free throws this season.

This is the seventh time in Bacot’s career he has been named ACC Player of the Week. Only Antawn Jamison (12) and Tyler Hansbrough (10) have more such honors as a Tar Heel.

Bacot and the Tar Heels will be back in action on Friday night when they host UC Riverside at the Smith Center at 8 p.m. The team will then head to the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas.
