The No. 2 UNC women’s tennis team picked up one more high-profile win before heading to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships later this month. The Tar Heels defeated No. 5 Georgia in Chapel Hill Wednesday night, moving their record in 2023 to 12-0.

As has been the case all season, a win in doubles helped Carolina start the match on the right foot. Elizabeth Scotty and freshman Reese Brantmeier dropped their match 6-3, but wins from Reilly Tran and Abbey Forbes and the top-ranked duo of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig helped UNC secure the doubles point.

Tanguilig continued to roll in singles, taking a straight sets win to put Carolina up 2-0. Forbes, ranked No. 5 in singles, defeated her Bulldog opponent to answer a Georgia win and put UNC on the precipice of victory, 3-1. It was Scotty who sealed it, coming back from a first-set loss to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and claim the match. The two other singles matches in progress were played out, with Tran winning in three sets but Crawley losing in singles for the first time this season.

The Tar Heels will now head out to Seattle for the ITA championships, seeking their fourth consecutive title. The tournament begins on Friday, February 10.
