The top-ranked UNC women’s tennis team stayed unbeaten on the season with a 4-1 win over USC in the first round of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle on Friday. The Tar Heels will face the winner of NC State and Washington in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The Tar Heels were clinical in doubles action, as Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig teamed up for a 6-2 win on No. 2 court, and the top-ranked pair of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty clinched the doubles point for UNC with a 6-3 win on No. 1.

In singles, the Trojans briefly evened the match with a win at No. 4 court, but Anika Yarlagadda and Reilly Tran each won their matches in straight sets to put Carolina a point away from victory. Crawley, playing on No. 1 court, finished off her USC opponent in straight sets as well to send UNC through.

The Tar Heels are the four-time defending champions at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The team’s quarterfinal match is scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m.
