At the conclusion of UNC’s participation in the Crescom Bank Holiday Invitational on Tuesday night, the women’s basketball team had picked up a win and a loss against two non-conference opponents.

On Sunday afternoon, the team suffered its worst loss of the season after losing 43-70 to LSU. It was North Carolina’s second loss on the season.

The Tar Heels (9-2) bounced back on Tuesday night with a 87-57 win over Jacksonville (9-3).

In Sunday’s game, UNC scored a season low 43 points after shooting only 30 percent for the game.

UNC did not lead at any point and held a tie for only 21 seconds.

The Tar Heels were led by sophomore guard, Stephanie Watts, as she scored nearly half the team’s offense, with 20 points and 11 rebounds. It was her fifth double-double of the season.

Raigyne Moncrief led LSU with 20 points, while Alexis Hyder and Chloe Jackson each added 12.

UNC out-scored LSU in the second quarter, 16-12, and remained close in scoring in the third, with 11 points compared to LSU’s 15. However, the Tigers dominated the Tar Heels in the first and fourth quarters, outscoring UNC 43 to 16.

LSU shot for 40 percent throughout the game.

Tuesday’s game was different in that UNC produced a more rounded team effort. Destinee Walker, a sophomore guard, led the team with a season-high 25 points. Watts added 18 points and Jamie Cherry, a junior guard, added 10.

Sherranda Reddick led Jacksonville with 18 points.

North Carolina got hot, scoring a season-high 53.4 percent from the field for the game, including a 70 percent clip in the third quarter.

At the peak, UNC held a 39-point lead with about six minutes left in the fourth period.

The team will next play in a return to Chapel Hill on Dec. 28 at two o’clock against Coppin State.
