The UNC women’s basketball team continued its hot start under new head coach Courtney Banghart on Friday at Carmichael Arena, improving to 3-0 with an 85-54 blowout victory over Charleston Southern.

A total of five Tar Heels scored in double figures, led by 16 points from senior Taylor Koenen. In the frontcourt, it was freshman forward Malu Tshitenge who excelled with 15 points and a team-high 16 rebounds.

Shayla Bennett was the only UNC starter to not reach double figures, as her six points left her just short of a triple-double–factoring in her 10 assists and 10 rebounds as well.

The Tar Heels built a 28-8 lead by the end of the first quarter, and never looked back on the way to the dominant victory.

As a team, UNC made 14 three-pointers to tie the program record for a single game. The Tar Heels have now won each of their first three games by an average of 36 points.

Charleston Southern falls to 0-3 with the loss.
