Faced with a tough task in Friday night’s season opener at Carmichael Arena, the UNC volleyball team was unable to pull off what would have been a huge upset–losing 3-0 to the No. 3 Minnesota Golden Gophers (16-25, 26-28, 17-25).
The Tar Heels fought valiantly in the second set–posting a .325 hitting percentage in that frame–but couldn’t quite get over the hump.
Parker Austin led UNC with 10 kills in the match, while Destiny Cox and Lauren Harrison added nine apiece.
Minnesota was simply too dominant for the Tar Heels to provide much of a threat, recording an incredible .330 hitting percentage for the entirety of the match.
