The North Carolina Tar Heels women’s lacrosse team had a record-setting performance on its way to a victory over the weekend moving to 3-0 on the season.
The second-ranked Tar Heels got a career-high five goals out of sophomore Marie McCool on the way to a 20-7 thrashing of San Diego State on Sunday afternoon.
Junior Molly Hendrick added four goals of her own in the victory. Hendrick’s scored four goals for the third time game in a row since returning from ACL surgery.
UNC scored 20 goals on a school record-tying 52 shots. That matches the record set by Carolina with 52 shots against Lehigh in March 1997.
The Tar Heels jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and were up 14-1 over the Aztecs at halftime.
Carolina will be back in action at 11 o’clock Saturday morning against number 10 Florida in Chapel Hill.
