Riding the arm of superstar pitcher Brittany Pickett, the UNC softball team cruised to a 6-0 series-opening victory over Notre Dame on Friday in Chapel Hill.
Pickett struck out four batters and allowed just six hits on the way to her third shutout win of the season, as the Tar Heels improved to 9-6 overall and 5-1 inside the ACC. She also needed just 66 pitches to get the job done.
Offensively, Kristina Burkhardt led UNC with a career-high four hits–two of which were triples. She was also one of four Tar Heels to drive in at least one run.
With the loss, Notre Dame falls to 7-6 overall and 1-4 in conference play.
