The UNC football team received a boost before practice on Thursday, when team chaplain Mitch Mason — who is away from the program battling a nervous system issue — delivered a video message to get the players pumped up.
Strength and conditioning coach Brian Hess emphatically introduced Mason, who was then shown on the Kenan Stadium scoreboard.

It was revealed in June that Mason has been dealing with the nervous system issue. He received an outpouring of support coming from many around the UNC program — some of which have previously deemed Mason “invaluable” for the work he’s done for the team since arriving in 2013.
The first ever Tar Heel football chaplain, Mason has been responsible for promoting the spiritual and character development of players. In addition, he has helped with numerous charity endeavors and provided spiritual counseling and one-on-one services — with a goal of helping to connect players, coaches and parents.
The number of players who wouldn't have made it through UNC or wouldn't be the people they are today because of Mitch Mason is immeasurable. He's the most important person in that building and needs our help now. Even if you can't donate, please share. https://t.co/ga1ks2pWCy

Mitch Mason is one of the finest people I have met in my life. He deserves all of the support generous people can give. He represents the best of UNC, and I appreciate this article. Pray for Mitch!
