
Despite suffering its first loss of the season this past Sunday in a four-hour marathon match against then No. 7 Vanderbilt, the UNC women’s tennis team held onto its spot at No. 1 in this week’s ITA Team Rankings–which were released on Tuesday.
It’s the third week in a row that the Tar Heels (12-1) have been ranked atop the poll.
Each of the nation’s top three teams comes from the ACC, with Duke and Georgia Tech checking in at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Vanderbilt moved up to No. 4 after knocking off UNC, while Illinois rounds out the top five.
Other teams filling out the top 10 include: No. 6 Pepperdine, No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 9 UCLA and No. 10 Georgia.
So far this season, the Tar Heels hold wins over Duke, Illinois, Pepperdine, Ole Miss and Texas Tech–representing five wins over the nation’s top eight teams.
UNC will get back into action with a pair of ACC matches this weekend, as it hosts Boston College on Friday (3 p.m.) and Syracuse (10 a.m.) on Sunday.
