The ongoing craziness of the college football coaching carousel hit Chapel Hill on Sunday, as UNC offensive line coach Brandon Jones–hired last month to join Mack Brown’s staff–is leaving the Tar Heels already to become the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Houston.
Jones came to UNC following stints at California, East Carolina and his alma mater Texas Tech.
At Houston, he’ll be joining the staff of former West Virginia head coach Dana Holgorsen–who recently left the Mountaineers after going 61-41 during an eight-year stint in charge.
Holgorsen was an offensive assistant at Texas Tech for the entirety of Jones’ playing career at the school, which has led to a relationship lasting over 15 years.
As for where UNC will go from here, The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman is reporting that the Tar Heels are expected to try and hire former Miami assistant Stacy Shearels to the offensive line coach position.
Shearels previously worked for Brown at Texas, and was considered for the job before UNC ultimately decided to hire Jones.
