The ACC announced Monday that UNC guard Deja Kelly has been named the league’s women’s basketball Freshman of the Week.
Kelly scored 19 points in the Tar Heels’ 77-64 win over Clemson last Thursday, then led the team with 14 points in a 82-63 loss at then-No. 4 NC State on Saturday.
She is averaging 9.8 points per game for UNC this season. This marks the first ACC weekly honor of Kelly’s young career and gives the Tar Heels a sweep in the league’s Freshman of the Week awards, as guard Kerwin Walton won the award on the men’s side.
To this point, the young Tar Heels have gone 11-9 overall and 6-9 inside the ACC with two regular season games left on the schedule.
UNC will host Georgia Tech on Thursday for its final home game of the season.
