UNC linebacker Chazz Surratt was one of 30 players selected Friday as candidates for this year’s Senior CLASS award, which recognizes student-athletes who excel both on and off the field.

Eligibility for the honor requires players to be an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision senior who has notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.

The award uses the acronym CLASS to stand for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School.

A winner is decided after the 30 candidates are narrowed down to 10 finalists at the end of the regular season.

Media, coaches and fans will then vote to decide the recipient in December through a nationwide voting system.
