The Diamond Heels know their path to the College World Series, and that path goes through Chapel Hill.

Carolina earned the No. 4 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament on Monday, and will host an NCAA Regional at Boshamer Stadium. Defending national champion LSU, Wofford and Long Island are also in the regional. The Tigers will face the Terriers in the regional’s opening game at noon on Friday, with Carolina facing the Sharks at 6 p.m. that evening. As UNC is one of the top eight seeds in the field, the Tar Heels would also host a Super Regional at Boshamer Stadium if they were to advance out of this weekend’s regional.

Four other ACC teams were named regional hosts: No. 6 Clemson, No. 8 Florida State, No. 10 NC State and No. 12 Virginia. No. 16 East Carolina will host a regional in Greenville, N.C., meaning three schools in North Carolina will host NCAA action. For a full look at the bracket, click here.

UNC enters the tournament with a 42-13 overall record and 32-2 mark in home games. The Tar Heels won the outright ACC regular-season title and finished 22-8 in regular-season conference games.

This is the second time in four seasons under head coach Scott Forbes and 13th time overall Carolina will have hosted a regional in Chapel Hill, and the fourth consecutive year under his guidance the team has made the tournament field. UNC is seeking its first trip to the College World Series with Forbes as head coach, having last made it to Omaha in 2018. The Tar Heels have never won the national championship.
