The Carolina Panthers released former UNC linebacker Andre Smith on Monday after spending each of the last two seasons with the team.

Smith was mainly a contributor on special teams with the Panthers after being selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He played in just three games as a rookie, but made it onto the field for all 16 games in 2019.

For his NFL career, Smith has just eight total tackles.

He broke out as a sophomore at UNC in 2016, posting 113 tackles despite playing with a torn pectoral muscle. A knee injury then limited Smith to just two games for the Tar Heels in 2017, and he opted to forego his senior year and enter the draft at the end of the season.
