The national champion UNC field hockey and women’s tennis teams were special guests in the nation’s capital Monday. Both sets of Tar Heels visited the White House to take part in the College Athlete Day Celebration. Vice president Kamala Harris spoke at the event (President Biden was having a dental procedure and could not attend), and the UNC contingent plans to meet with members of North Carolina’s congressional delegation.

The field hockey team won its 10th national championship in November, defeating Northwestern 2-1 in head coach Karen Shelton’s final game. The women’s tennis team captured its first NCAA title in May, defeating NC State to cap off a dominant 2023 season.
