Five Tar Heels entered their name into the 2023 NFL Draft: wide receivers Josh Downs and Antoine Green, linebacker Noah Taylor, offensive lineman Asim Richards and defensive lineman Ray Vohasek. Here’s where each of those five players have either been drafted or signed and will begin their pro careers:

Downs was selected by Indianapolis in the third round of the draft with the 79th overall pick. Downs leaves Carolina as one of the program’s most decorated receivers ever, ranking in the top 5 in total receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He is also the current program record-holder for the most receptions in a single season with 101 — the only 100+ reception season in Carolina history.

A steady presence along the Carolina offensive line, Richards started 38 out of 39 games between 2020 and 2022. Richards’ presence served as an anchor for powerful Tar Heel offenses led by Sam Howell and Drake Maye. Blocking for Maye in 2022, Richards earned third team All-ACC honors and allowed just three sacks in 1,049 snaps.

Green overcame multiple injuries during his time at Carolina and is now headed to the pros after the Detroit Lions selected him in the seventh round of the draft with the 219th overall pick. Green was named third team All-ACC in 2022 despite missing the first three games of the season with an upper-body injury. He averaged a team-high 18.56 yards per catch as a fifth-year senior and ranked second on the team in receptions, yards and touchdowns.

DL Ray Vohasek – Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars selected Vohasek, a former junior college transfer, in the seventh round of the draft with the 227th overall pick. Vohasek was named All-ACC honorable mention in 2021 and started the first five games of the 2022 season before having it cut short due to injury. That snapped a streak of 29 consecutive starts on the defensive line for Vohasek.

Still unsigned: LB Noah Taylor
