Carolina Notes

• Carolina is 26-6 overall, 14-4 in the ACC

• Carolina wins the ACC regular-season championship for the 31st time (ACC record) and the 21st time outright (ACC record) with a 14-4 record. Florida State, Notre Dame and Louisville tie for second at 12-6, two games behind the Tar Heels.

• This is the 10th time the Tar Heels have won 14 ACC regular season games and the sixth time they have done it under head coach Roy Williams. UNC was 14-0 in 1957, 14-0 in 1984, 14-0 in 1987, 14-2 in 1993, 14-2 in 2005, 14-2 in 2008, 14-2 in 2011, 14-2 in 2012, 14-4 in 2016 and 14-4 in 2017.

• Carolina won all 15 games in the Smith Center this year and all 16 home games (including the win over Notre Dame in Greensboro). UNC also went 15-0 at the Smith Center in 2005 and 2011. This ties the most wins without a loss in a season at the Smith Center. UNC also was undefeated at the Smith Center in 1987 (13-0) and 1993 (12-0).

• This is the 15th time since ACC play began in 1954 the Tar Heels posted an undefeated record at home (1956, 1957, 1959, 1971, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1978, 1979, 1984, 1987, 1993, 2005, 2011 and 2017).

• This was the 200th ACC win for the Tar Heels in the Smith Center.

• This UNC’s 10th win this year over a team in the NCAA’s top 50. Butler, Duke and Villanova entered the day today tied for the most top-50 wins in the country with 10.

• The win was the 58th ACC win (regular season and Tournament) for seniors Nate Britt and Isaiah Hicks. That ties the UNC record with Danny Green and Tyler Hansbrough.

• Carolina shot 50.7 percent from the floor. UNC is 10-2 this year when it shoots 50 percent from the floor. It was the sixth time this year UNC shot 50 percent from the floor in both halves (Chaminade, Oklahoma State, Kentucky, Wake Forest, NC State and Duke).

• Duke made 28 free throws, which ties a season-high by an opponent this year (28 by Georgia Tech). The 35 free throw attempts are the most against UNC this year (previous 33 by Georgia Tech).

• This was the 15th time this year UNC scored 90 or more points, most since 2009 (16 times)

Tar Heel Player Notes

• Joel Berry II led UNC with 28 points, his second-highest scoring total this year and as a Tar Heel (31 at Clemson). 

• Berry tied the UNC single-game record by making all five of his three-point field goals. It is the fifth time a Tar Heel has made at least 5 for 5 in a game – Jason Capel (6 for 6 vs. Clemson, 2001), Marcus Paige (5 for 5 at NC State, 2014), Hubert Davis (5 for 5 vs. Eastern Michigan, 1991), Davis (5 for 5 at Alabama, 1989) and Berry (5 for 5 vs. Duke, 2017).

• It was the ninth time this year Berry led UNC in scoring and it was his eighth 20-point game this year.

• Berry made all five of his threes in the first half. It was the second time this year he made five threes in a half – he made five threes in the second half at Clemson.

• It was fourth time this year (all in ACC play) that Berry made five threes in a game (7 at Clemson, 5 vs. Virginia Tech, 5 vs. Pitt and 5 vs. Duke).

• Justin Jackson broke a 71-all tie with 5:56 to play with his only three-pointer of the game. He assisted on UNC’s next two field goals by Isaiah Hicks and Kennedy Meeks that gave UNC a six-point lead. Jackson finished with 15 points and four assists.

• Isaiah Hicks had 21 points and tied his season high with nine rebounds. He scored a total of 20 points in his previous four games.

• Hicks was 7 for 9 from the floor – he made four field goals in UNC’s previous three games.

• It was Hicks’ fourth 20-point game of the season and the sixth of his career.

• Hicks scored his 1,000th career point. He is the 76th Tar Heel to score 1,000 points and the fourth on this year’s team to reach 1,000 (Jackson, Berry and Kennedy Meeks). This is the fourth season UNC has had four 1,000-point scorers (2001, 2005, 2009 and 2017).

• Tony Bradley and Luke Maye combined for 16 points and seven rebounds in a combined 33 minutes off the bench. They each scored eight points.

• Theo Pinson had a game-high seven assists (Duke had eight). It was the sixth time in 13 games this year Pinson has led UNC in assists.

Roy Williams Notes

• 809-215 overall, 391-114 at UNC, 169-65 in ACC regular season games, 200-27 in UNC home games (198-27 at the Smith Center)

• Williams has led UNC to eight ACC regular-season titles in 14 years – no other school or coach has won more than three in his 14 years.
