Welcome to “Thriving in Orange!” A monthly segment presented by Orange County Economic Development, “Thriving in Orange” features conversations with local business owners about what it’s like to live and work in Orange County, especially in light of the county’s small business grant program which launched in 2015 and has helped small businesses and small business owners with well over $100,000 in grants each year!

This month, 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck has a conversation with Toi Burton from Carolina Elite Studios, a dance studio teaching competitive dance in Hillsborough.

“It gives the girls and boys the opportunity have stage presence,” said Burton. “It gives them a chance to show their talent, it builds character, so when they’re getting in front of people they’re not scared to talk or perform or just be themselves.”

Over the past 10 years, Carolina Elite Studios has taken on many local students, been to many competitions, and racked up a wall of awards, accolades, and grateful alumni who come together to form a larger community.

“Our goal is to make them a sister-and-brotherhood, to understand that you are a person, you have a voice,” said Burton. “Sometimes, it’s hard for them to express with their voice. So, through movement, they express how they really feel.”
