Welcome to “Thriving in Orange!” A monthly segment presented by Orange County Economic Development, “Thriving in Orange” features conversations with local business owners about what it’s like to live and work in Orange County, especially in light of the county’s small business grant program which launched in 2015 and has helped small businesses and small business owners with well over $100,000 in grants each year!

This month, 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck has a conversation with a familiar face and voice: Aubrey Williams! General manager of 97.9 The Hill and Chapelboro.com, Williams’ leadership as part of Chapel Hill Media Group has provided the consistency necessary to move Chapel Hill’s oldest continuous broadcaster into a new era — while Orange County Economic Development’s small business grant program has provided some necessary funds!

“The money is there, and it’s there to support business in Orange County,” said Williams. “So many people just don’t know it’s available and you have nothing to lose by filling out an application.”

The program isn’t just for newcomers in the local small business scene, it also provides support for long-standing business such as 97.9 The Hill.

“It’s an easy and smooth process, and I love that our county is trying to support small businesses like us. I think there are many other small businesses … that we work with on a day-to-day basis here in our community that could really benefit,” said Williams. “So, I say, if you are considering a grant and you want to apply, go for it!”
