When is the best time for your child to see an orthodontist?
It’s recommended that kids have their first visit around age 8. This sounds really early since they still have several baby teeth, but this is the time an orthodontist will evaluate how the adult teeth are developing and monitor for any potential issues. Most children aren’t ready to start braces at this time but proper monitoring can make orthodontic treatment easier and faster when it is time.
A majority of kids are ready for full treatment around age 12 or when all the baby teeth have been lost, but sometimes an early phase of treatment around age 8-10 is recommended for specific issues such as crossbites and underbites.
