In the early morning hours of Memorial Day weekend, Veterans and loved ones gathered at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens to honor friends, family, and fellow brothers-in-arms by placing a flag at the marker for each fallen hero. Flag placement is a longstanding tradition that brings to light the true meaning of Memorial Day as a way of never forgetting those who served our country.
The event began with the first rays of the sun at Chapel Hill Memorial Garden.
Lee Heavlin gave instructions on the proper way to display the flags at the gravesites.
American flags were distributed to everyone.
After the flag placement, Lee Heavlin led a gravesite memorial service.
Taps was played to mark the end of the ceremony.
“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow between the crosses row on row….”
A heartfelt thank you to ALL our veterans!
